EFT for New Mum And Baby
As a new mum and a therapist, I have experienced various emotions around motherhood within myself. I can also see my clients experiencing the same emotions. Having a baby affects you emotionally. Sometimes the happy emotions of motherhood are mixed up with feelings of fear, worry, and overwhelm. You may love holding, touching, and playing with your baby, or it may take some time for these feelings to appear. Some mums may not immediately feel the overwhelming sense of love they were anticipating. It can bring immense happiness, but mum day-to-day can also make you feel exhausted. Talking care about your well-being is vital to ensure you are mental health.

The Emotional Freedom Technique has found that tapping regularly helps shift emotions. It gives an outlet for confusing emotions arising from pregnancy and post-pregnancy hormones and allows us to work through emotional times of sleep deprivation and colossal change. Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT tapping, is a combination of talking therapy and acupressure point stimulation. It is also referred to as tapping, known as the new psychology energy technique. EFT Tapping is a form of therapy used to help provide treatment to those suffering from emotional difficulties. It is also effective in helping people to relieve stress, anxiety and worries. According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) there are certain areas of the body, called meridian points, through which energy flows. An imbalance of these energy lines is thought to be the cause of discomfort and emotional dysregulation and tapping helps to rebalance them. Fingertip tapping of specific meridians, or acupressure points, stimulates these energy lines. The meridian points used in EFT are the same as those used in acupuncture, just with a gentle tapping pressure applied with your fingertips, while repeating certain affirmations. Stimulating meridian points on the face and upper body by repeated tapping sends signals to an area of the brain called the amygdala which coordinates emotional responses and manages stress levels, helping to reduce stress and anxiety.

Having to face stressful situations that might feel difficult or even impossible to overcome can be very challenging as we meet life’s demands. Stress can relate to worry, anxiety and fear. We don’t stress about things that don’t matter to us; we stress over something that we care about.

EFT tapping is a safe and very effective way to calm your baby down when they are agitated or distressed. Gentle tapping on a baby’s face can help them to settle and feel more content, as well as creating an opportunity to bond and have skin-to-skin contact. It can help parents and babies smoothly navigate milestones such as colic, sleep issues, constipation and separation anxiety.
